ENGINEERING MECHANICS 2018 Question Paper — Government College of Eng…
The 2018 ENGINEERING MECHANICS previous year question paper (Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu), with every question and its marks.
- University: Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu
- Subject: ENGINEERING MECHANICS
- Course: ENGINEERING MECHANICS
- Year: 2018
- Paper: end-term
- Duration: 180 minutes
- Total marks: 100
Instructions
- Attempt five questions in all selecting at least one question from each Unit.
- All questions carry equal marks.
Questions
Unit - I
- Q1. Two beams are pin connected at D and supported two loads P and Q as shown in the figure. Coefficient of friction is zero at A and 0.18 at B and C. Find the value of P when Q = 600 N.
Unit - II
- Q2. Find the smallest angle possible which prevents the system from collapsing.
- Q3. Determine the tension in the Rope AC. [20 marks]
Unit - III
- Q4. A thin uniform wire ABCDEA is bent into the shape as shown in the Figure 4. Determine the C.G. of the same. Arc AB is of the radius 4 cm lying in XOY plane.
- Q5. Define the term instantaneous centre or virtual centre in plane motion of rigid bodies. Also explain the methods to determine the virtual centre, for different situations.
- Q6. A ball of mass m is dropped on a spring of stiffness 'k' from a height 'h'. Find the maximum deflection in the spring. Take m = 10 kg, k = 400 N/m, h = 20 c.m.
Unit - IV
- Q7. A solid cylinder of mass 50 kg and 0.5 m radius is having initial velocity of 6m/s down a $30^\circ$ inclined plane. Calculate the velocity of cylinder when it has reached 10 m down the plane from the starting point. It may be presumed that the cylinder rolls without sliding.
- Q8. Figure 5 shows two masses $m_1 = 1 \text{ kg}$ and $m_2 = 2 \text{ kg}$ connected by rope and the rope is passing over two smooth pulleys $P_1$ and $P_2$. Mass $m_3 = 5 \text{ kg}$ is supported from the movable pulley $P_2$. If the inclination of the inclined plane is $\alpha$, where $\tan \alpha = \frac{3}{4}$ and coefficient of friction is $0.1$, determine the motion of the system, neglecting the weight of the pulley $P_2$.
