Questions
Section - A
- Q1. Discuss the various speed control methods of three-phase Induction Motor. [20 marks]
- Q2. A 6-pole, 50 hz, 3-phase Induction Motor running on full load develops a useful torque of 150 Nm at a rotor frequency of 1.5 hz. Calculate the shaft power output. If the mechanical torque lost in friction be 10 Nm, determine rotor copper loss, the input to the motor and the efficiency. [20 marks]
- Q3. Describe the construction and working of split phase and shaded pole single phase Induction Motor. [20 marks]
- Q4. a) Draw and explain the equivalent circuit of a single-phase Induction Motor. b) Explain the double-revolving field theory for single-phase Induction Motor. [20 marks]
Section B
- Q5. Define Voltage Regulation of an Alternator. Explain the Synchronous Impedance method and MMF method of determining voltage regulation of an Alternator. Also mention its merit and limitation of both the methods. [20 marks]
- Q6. a) Explain the equivalent circuit of a Synchronous Generator. b) A 3-phase, 16 pole synchronous generator has a resultant air-gap flux of 0.06 Wb per pole. The flux is distributed sinusoidally over the pole. The stator has 2 slots per pole per phase and 4 conductors per slot are accommodated in two layers. The coil span is $150^\circ$ electrical. Calculate the phase and line induced voltages when the machine runs at 375 rpm. [20 marks]
- Q7. Describe the construction and working of reluctance motor and explain its torque-speed characteristics. [20 marks]
- Q8. a) Derive an expression for the power developed in a 3-phase Synchronous Motor. b) Draw V curves of three-phase Synchronous Motor and state their significance. [20 marks]
