Questions
Section A
- Q1. (a) What is the importance of Nagpur road plan in highway planning of our country. Explain the plan formulae and the salient features of the plan. [10] (b) A road has a total width of 7.5 including extra widening on curve and design speed of $60\text{ km/h}$. Calculate the length of transition curve and its shift on this curve of $200\text{ m}$ radius. Allowable super elevation is 1 in 150 and pavement is rotated about centerline. [10] [20 marks]

Section B
- Q5. (a) Draw a neat sketch of a rigid pavement cross-section and show its different component parts. Explain the function of sub-base course and base course in detail. [10] (b) The plate bearing tests were conducted with $30\text{ cm}$ dia plate on soil sub-grade and over $15\text{ cm}$ base course. The pressure yielded at $0.25\text{ cm}$ deflection is $1.25\text{ kg/cm}^2$ and $5\text{ kg/cm}^2$. Design the pavement thickness for $4080\text{ kgs}$ wheel load with tyre pressure of $4.5\text{ kg/cm}^2$, Rigidity factor = 1.11. [10] [20 marks]
