Questions
Unit I
- Q1. Find the vertical and horizontal deflections of the joint G of the truss shown in Fig.1. The sectional area of the Horizontal members is $1500\text{ mm}^2$. Vertical members is $1800\text{ mm}^2$ and that of inclined members is $2500\text{ mm}^2$. Take E = $200\text{ kN/mm}^2$. [20 marks]
- Q2. The three bars system comprising straight prismatic bars OA, OB, OC which are hinged at A, B, C and meet at a pin-joint O as shown in Fig 2. A vertical load W is applied at O, Determine the internal forces in the members by using Castigliano first theorem if the axial stiffness K is same for all members. [20 marks]
Unit II
- Q3. For a fixed beam subjected to loads and couple shown in Fig. 3, determine the reactions and support moments. Find the fixing moments at A and B. Draw S.F and B.M.D. Take E = $200\text{ kN/mm}^2$ and I = $2.75 \times 10^8\text{ mm}^4$. [20 marks]
- Q4. Using three moment theorem. Determine the support moments and reactions at supports for the continuous beam show in Fig. 4, if the supports B and C sink by 3 mm and 5 mm resp. Take $I_{ab} = I_{cd} = 2 \times 10^7\text{ mm}^4$, $I_{bc} = 4 \times 10^7\text{ mm}^4$ and E=$150\text{ kN/mm}^2$. [20 marks]
UNIT III
- Q5. Analyze the structure shown in Figure 5. All the members have same flexural rigidity. [20 marks]
- Q6. Analyse the portal frame as shown in Fig 6. by using Rotation contribution method. [20 marks]
UNIT IV
- Q7. Find the moments at A, B, C, D for the portal frame shown in Fig. 7 using column analogy method. [20 marks]
- Q8. A beam AB fixed at both ends is 8 m long. It carries a U.D.L of 50 kN at the centre. The moment of inertia of the beam is 21 for the middle half length and I for the remaining part. Find the end moments by using column analogy method. [20 marks]
