Questions
SECTION - I
- Q1. The roof of a hall is 36 m long and 12 m wide between centres of the columns and consists of continuous R.C. slab over rectangular portal frame spaced 3 m apart. The roof is water proofed with tar felt. The portal may be assumed to be hinged at their bases. Design the continuous slab and the one of the intermediate frames and draw a sectional elevation of the portal frame showing the details of the reinforcement. The ceiling height is 3.5 m above the hinge level. Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 steel. [50 marks]
- Q2. Design underground tank of size $6 \times 6 \times 3\text{ m}$. Take unit weight of soil $18\text{ KN/m}^3$. Use M 20 concrete and Fe 415 grade of steel. [50 marks]
- Q3. Design a T-beam bridge for the following data : Clear width of roadway = 7 m Span centre to centre of bearing = 16 m Live load = one lane of class AA or two lanes of class A loading Average thickness of wearing coat = 8 cm Use M 20 concrete for deck slab and M 20 concrete for beams. [50 marks]
SECTION - II
- Q4. Design a roof truss to the following particulars Span of truss = 9 m Inclination of roof with horizontal $30^\circ$. Height of eaves 6 m Spacing of trusses = 3.5 m Roofing shall be of G.I sheets The truss is supported on 400 mm thick brick walls. Building is located in Delhi. Take risk coefficient $k_1 = 1$, Terrain factor $k_2 = 0.85$ and Topography Factor $k_3 = 1$. The basic wind speed for Delhi is 47 m/sec. Adopt the geometry of truss shown in fig. 1 [50 marks]
- Q5. A plate girder has a span of 18 m and has to carry an external load of 120 kN/m in addition to its own weight. Design the girder. Permissible bending stress = $165\text{ N/mm}^2$. Permissible shearing stress = $100\text{ kN/m}^2$. Use 20 mm diameter rivets. [50 marks]
- Q6. Design a square pressed steel tank of size $5\text{ m} \times 5\text{ m} \times 2.5\text{ m}$ high. The height of columns above the ground is 12 m Take basic wind pressure intensity of $1.5\text{ kN/m}^2$. [50 marks]
