Questions
Unit - I
- Q1. (a) What is nominal mix and explain method of proportions of concrete mix? (b) What is fineness modulus of aggregate? What is the importance of grading of aggregate in the design of concrete mix? [20 marks]
- Q2. Design an intermediate joist made up of deodar timber. The joist are spaced at 1.5 m centre to centre and are having a clear span of 4 m and rest on wall having thickness 230 mm and slab thickness is 125 mm where live load of 2.5 KN/m² and floor finish loads 2 KN/m². Use E = 9500 N/mm². [20 marks]
Unit - II
- Q3. Explain in details about the various methods used for the design of RCC structures? [20 marks]
- Q4. A beam simply supported over a span of 6 m carries a superimposed load of 40 KN/m. The centre to centre spacing of beans is 3 m. Design the midspan section of an intermediate beam as a T-section for the following additional data. Thickness of slab = 120 mm Width of web = 200mm. Load factor = 1.5. Total depth of beam = 600 mm. Effective cover = 65 mm. Use concrete grade M20 and Fe 250 grade of steel. [20 marks]
Unit - III
- Q5. Design shear stirrups of a 230×600 mm size of beam carrying 3 Nos. 16 mm bars as tension steel. The beam is subjected to a UDL of 20 KN/m over a span of 6m. Use M20 and Fe 415 grade of steel. [20 marks]
- Q6. A continuous beam 250×400 mm effective depth carries 3 No. 16mm bars as longitudinal steel. If shear force at point of inflexion is 18 KN. Check whether beam is safe in bond or not. [20 marks]
Unit - IV
- Q7. Determine the reinforcement to be provided in a column for the following data. Size of column 450×600mm Factored load = 1800 KN Factored moment parallel to larger dimension = 135 KNm. Factored moment parallel to shorter dimension = 90 KNm. Use M20 and Fe 415 grade of concrete. [20 marks]
- Q8. A square column 500×500 mm carries an axial load of 1500 KN. Design the column and a square footing for the column. The safe bearing capacity of soil is 225 KN/m². Use M20 concrete and Fe 415 grade of steel. [20 marks]
