• There will be eight questions of 20 marks each, four from each section.
• Students are required to attempt five questions selecting at least two questions from each section.

Section-A

• Q1. (a) Explain the true power, reactive power and apparent power in detail. [10] (b) Explain in detail the measurement of power in three phase balanced circuits. [10] [20 marks]
• Q2. (a) Use superposition theorem to find current through $6\Omega$ resistor for the circuit of fig : [10] (b) State and prove the maximum power transfer theorem in detail. [10] [20 marks]
• Q3. (a) Explain the series and parallel circuit. Three loads A, B, C are connected in parallel to a 240 volt source. Load A takes $9.6\text{ kW}$, load B takes 60 amperes and load C has a resistance of 4.8 ohms. Calculate : (i) $R_A$ and $R_B$ (ii) Total current (iii) Total power (iv) Equivalent resistance. [10] (b) Determine the voltage at each node and current through each element in the circuit given the figure by nodal voltage method : [10] [20 marks]

Section-B

• Q5. Explain the open circuit and short circuit test in case of single phase transformer. In detail also explain the vector diagram with resistance and leakage reactance in case of single phase transformer. [20] [20 marks]

• Q7. Explain various types of losses in transformer. Also explain the regulation and efficiency in case of single phase transformer. [20] [20 marks]
• Q8. (a) What do you mean by earthing ? Why it is necessary to earth electrical installation ? Draw a neat sketch of pipe earthing ? [12] (b) Explain the various types of cables in detail. [8] [20 marks]
